I miss Houston

My hometown is still slightly underwater, and my parents are without power. I'm sad from hearing all the stories about people going home to find their houses gone. Check out Billy's blog for some impressive hurricane destruction pics.

This hurricane is crampin my style

Update on the past week. I started Equine Orthopedic Surgery rotation last Monday. I was fearing the worst, but my clinician, resident, classmates, and patients have all been pretty nice and understanding of my equine knowledge deficiency. Unfortunately, the clinic stopped taking patients Friday and was open for emergencies only, so our caseload was rather meager.
Somebody walked up to me on Wednesday afternoon and told me that I needed to go to the Expo center in Bryan to help take in refugee animals. I worked at the Expo center Wed from 4pm-midnight and then Thursday from midnight-8am. We took in almost 200 horses and even a couple of longhorns and a few pigs. It was interesting, but my sleep was out of whack and I got kinda confused about what day it was. I'm back on track now, and working in the clinic again.
I have one more week with the horsies, and then I get to go back to the small animal clinic and start dentistry, which I am super excited about. Dr. Dodd is really cool and I enjoyed his elective a lot. There's something so satisfying about extracting teeth...
All my friends and family made it through the storm okay. My brother, parents, and Marc are still without power, and my parents lost the fences in their yard, but otherwise no other damage. College Station was anticlimactic. I brought in all the flower pots and light weight objects on Friday, but the winds didn't gust over 30 mph and it just stormed all day. I was a little bit worried on Saturday morning when I had to go into school to take care of my patients, but the roads weren't even flooded.
Today, the weather is lovely, and after I got back home from school and put my plants back outside, I sat in the hammock and read a little bit. Now I'm looking forward to the new season of House which starts on Tuesday. My breath is on bated tenterhooks.
