Story of my life

Last week sucked, I think I failed both tests that I took that week. It's really frustrating to study for a test for two weeks and then still do badly on it. At least my weekend went well. On Friday I drove to Houston and had some tasty Italian food with my old coworkers at Buca di Beppo's. On Saturday I drove to San Antonio and had a girl's night out with my old undergrad friends. We went to Howl at the Moon piano bar down by the riverwalk, and although I was skeptical about the bar at first, by the end of the night everyone was up dancing and singing along. Very fun times.

This week should be better, no tests and only a couple of quizzes. Next weekend my parents are coming to the white coat ceremony that the vet school puts on every year. I keep thinking about it as "I survived my first year of vet school and all I got was this white coat." I was also lucky enough to be chosen for a reptile wet lab this weekend which should be fun. Altogether things are looking up. Now I just have to figure out how to keep from failing out of school and all will be well.

Birds and shit and stuff

Marc and I went birding on Tuesday morning before the rodeo. We drove out to High Island and saw some pretty cool birds. I saw a barn owl, anhingas, common moorhens, a female red-winged black bird, a female common yellow-throated warbler, and lots of yellow-rumped warblers all of which I had never seen before. We also went out to egret island and watched the great egrets, roseate spoonbills, and cormorants building their nests.

In the evening we went to the rodeo and looked at the cows in the livestock show. The best part was seeing the cutest little pig dive into a swimming pool. I wanted to kiss it's little nose it was so precious.

I've got a busy rest of the week. I'm going to study all day Thursday and Friday morning, go to the nursing home for St. Pat's celebrations, and then dance my butt off at Numbers Friday night. Then it's back to reality.

Free Again

Hooray for vacations! I finally got rid of the dead plants that have been sitting on my porch since December, and my apartment is the cleanest it's been since I moved in.

Billy got me a collection of 80's movies for my birthday and I watched Sixteen Candles on Friday night. I never realized that John Cusack makes a small appearance in that movie. He was so cute and boyish. Watching it made me want to be a teenager in the 80's.

The rest of the week will be spent sleeping late and catching up on my reading for school. I'm also going to the rodeo on Tuesday, and possibly Numbers on Friday.

Long December

I took this picture of Queso this morning. I thought it was cute that he was using the pillow. He was also snoring extremely loudly.

Marc surprised me with tickets to the ballet last Saturday. I hadn't been to the ballet since I was about 7 years old. We saw Swan Lake, and I had such a wonderful time. The dancing, music, costumes and scenery were all breathtaking. It's all I've been able to think about for the past few days, and I can't wait to go again.

I've decided to take up the flute again. I've been practicing daily and I'm enjoying it, but I'm disappointed at myself for giving it up for so many years. Especially when I look back at the sheet music that I used to play in high school. I used to play such advanced music and now I'm back to a beginner.

Friday is the start of spring break. I need a vacation so badly. My stress level has been really high lately, and I think it has been exacerbated by a lack of sleep. I've been waking up a few hours early every morning to get some extra studying in before class. The little sleep I do get has been restless. This may be due to the hellish porch light coming in through my window. The night watchman made me put the lightbulb back in for security. I'm going to have to put up some curtains, because the towels I tacked up to the window look somewhat low class.

Don't turn my orchid blue

I got a Cattleya orchid from the nursery, and I've become rather obsessed with it. Probably because I haven't managed to kill it yet. In fact, it seems to be flourishing and has new buds coming in. I've been diligently watering and fertilizing it, and making sure that it gets enough sun (but not too much sun), and that the temperature is just right. And when I run my dishwasher, I sit it on the counter so it can bathe in the the warm humid air. Like I said, slightly obsessed. Behold my orchid in all its glory!

What I say and what I mean

Post PMS and microbiology test things are looking up. And I'm going to the ballet this weekend.
